HOW YOU CHOOSE PRESSURE PUMP FOR YOUR BATHROOM SHOWER OR TAP POINT? (EXPERT GUIDE)

02 Jul 2021

This is the expert guide to water feature pressure pump sizing. It covers:

  • What flow rate does my rain shower or body jet or shower panel need?
  • How many numbers of bathroom?
  • Peak hour bathroom usage?
  • What kind of pipe line they laid?
  • What max head or pressure need for those fittings?

So, if you're struggling to figure out which pump is right for your home, this is the guide for you.

Let's get started.

What flow rate does my rain showeror bathroom need?

Flow rate is the term used to describe the amount of water flowing through shower head or shower panel over a period of time. flow rate is calculated in Litres per Minute/LPM orLitres per second/LPS or Litres per Hour/LPHfor example:

A shower with a 10/LPM (Litres per Minute) flow rate will be10 litres of water in one minute.

Now, if you are having 4 number of bathrooms with 1 foot or 12” rain shower. Each rain shower flow rate will be 15 LPM. Rain shower working pressure will be 3 bar it means 30M. Peak hour usage will be 3 bathrooms

We have to choose 15+15+15 = 45 LPM head =30M

You can choose from our Grundfos product centre with required head and flow the above pump model CM 3-3 is matched.

Now some other house having 5 bathrooms. 1 bathroom has body jets 4 points with 12” rain showers. Another 4 bathrooms are 12” rain shower. Peak hour, 1 body jet bathrooms with rain shower and another rain shower bathroom will be needed. how we choose pump? For body jet 4.0 bar needed it means 40 M head. Flow of each body jet 10 LPM. both bathrooms have 12” rain shower rain shower flow 18 LPM with 3.0 bar needed.

Body jet flow -10 LPM each

12” Rain shower flow -18LPM

Total Flow =10X4 + 18X2=76LPM

Total flow / Hour =4560 Litres/Hour or 4.5 M3/H

Max head =4.0 Bar or 40M

If we check the above flow and head in Grundfos product centre above pump model CM 5-5 is matched.

We can easily choose the better model depends upon our requirement.

How to calculate a Grundfos pressure tank size?

Formula to calculate pressure tank size

V=Qx1000x (1+(cut in pressure) + (differential pressure)) / 4 x (Max start-stop per hour) x differential pr x1/0.9

Q=flow / hour (4.5)

Cut in pressure =1

Cut off pressure =3

No of start/stop per hour =80

Differential pressure = 1 bar

V=4.5 X1000 (1+3+1) / 4x80x1 x1/0.9

V=70.3x1/0.9

V=78 Litre so nearest tank size is 60 Litre
